Alright pardners (and Moe), I do believe that it is time for us to saddle up and hit the plains together in a DGR community playdate! Let’s posse up as many of us as we can in a private server for some Red Dead Redemption Free Roam and Gang War action. The time I would like to propose for such a get together would be this coming Sunday eveing, June 13th, from 8:00 -10:00 CST.
Why Posse up? Well after another great night of roaming the plains with Mitchi’s Outlaws, I was reminded about just how GREAT gaming has become since I virtually eliminated the D-bag factor. Before joining the DGR and surrounding communities I would frequently find myself pulling my hair out (and trust me there isn’t much left these days) putting up with loud-mouthed kids or grievers who found great pleasure in ruining the online experience for us. Those days are mostly gone, and while I do find myself getting into a public game every now and then, I vastly perfer gaming with the awesome people we have here, many of whom have become dear and good friends in real life.
We have a section with gamertags on the site, but with the influx of folks that have contributed lately, so it may not be a bad time to send the call out for folks to post their gamertags here and join in on the fun. Hopefully PanicBot can then turn this information into a new up-to-date list of bad ass, drunk gamers!
I’ll start:
Xbox Live = Ryker XL
PSN = Ryker_XL
Steam = Ryker XL (Hey I see a pattern)
See you Sunday pardner! Unless yer yella…

So it’s been about seven months of life with a PSPgo. Sony lied about UMD conversions and new UMDs releasing with PSN versions, my hardware broke and repaired for $100 through SCEA, I got to spend four days redownloading my game collection while thanking god unlike Nintendo downloads my account is transferable, and I listen with my head in my hands while the giga-nerd backlash continues against Go about ownership of media while the same idiots praise Apple for having all their games on one place. ‘Lots of love-hate relationship running around.
Well friends, I love my PSPgo; still. My 40+ collection in pocket size continues to outweigh the costs. It is a strange love.
I know because of Sony’s infamous new-hotness pricing backlashs, the PSPgo is the worst selling system of all the consoles while regular PSP is somewhere on the up-’n-up. I know Sony is working on PSP2-hyphen-comma-phone. I know the flow of updating old UMDs to a PSP version dwindled after the curbstomping hardware sales results. Therefore I’m educated-guessing my machine isn’t going to be supported too much longer. That’s ok I guess. Before I bought PSPgo, I did a bunch of consumer research and wrote down a list of games I wanted to make sure get PSN ported before I jumped on the device. Surprisingly, my wishes were granted on most of those. This article is about the missing few that should have hit the download service six months ago.
Sony, can you hit up your developers and get these titles on your downloadable network? Pretty please?

I am flabbergasted. After just having a conversation the other day where I said the only way to bring Bonk back would be through one of the downloadable services, here he is, ready to appear on WiiWare, XBLA, and PSN. And yes, I will buy all three versions. I am that stupid crazy.
Here are the details:
Bonk. Is. Back! Hudson’s loveable caveman makes his long-awaited return and has brought his enormously giant head with him! Get ready for an all new adventure exclusively on Xbox LIVE®Arcade, Playstation®Network, and WiiWare™ in Spring 2010!
A doomsday comet, surrounded by smaller chunks of debris, is on a collision course with Earth. A strange magnetic field around the comet seems to be driving most of the planet’s weak-willed creatures crazy, and smaller bits of debris are smashing into the jungle near Bonk’s home. Bonk must undertake a perilous journey that will take him to the very center of the planet to save the world.
The Return Of The Most Widely Requested Classic Platformer
• Story Mode with Co-Op play. Play alone or have a friend join you at any time!
• An entire new adventure with Bonk as he swims, bites, climbs, jumps, runs, and head-butts his way through jungles, deserts and volcanic caverns
• Search for help along the way: power ups, check points, and extra health are the staple for every adventuring caveman.
• Transformations are back and weirder than ever! Now Bonk can transform himself into eight different forms by eating meat or encountering Primordial Jelly. No enemy is safe from the boy with the super noggin!
New Features
• Online play for the first time in the series!
• New enemies with incredible variations in personalities and abilities. Beware the Raptor Unicycle Tank!
• Classic 2D platforming in a 3D world.
• Tons of collectibles will have you searching the entire prehistoric world.
Join us as we welcome Bonk back into our hearts! For those who haven’t played the originals, you’re in for a prehistoric side-scrolling adventure, the likes of which you’ve never seen! Coming soon for XBLA, PSN, and WiiWare.
How about some pics? Keep reading…

From Comments of DGR: 02.27.2009
Your comments on Flower are pretty interesting, John, in light of the podcast I heard right before this week’s episode. I was listening to a recent episode of The Geekbox in which Ryan Scott was discussing R-Type Dimensions. His take on the game was essentially this:
“It’s good, it’s really hard… Thank God they put in Infinite Mode because it’s too hard for me to get through otherwise. But the game’s really short– I mean, you can blow through it in 45 minutes.”
While this is technically true, as shmup fans, we get a lot more out of the R-Type experience than this guy did. Perhaps the same is true for Flower. Obviously, you can’t directly compare Flower with a shmup– DJ Incompetent is likely to vomit upon reading this, in fact– but for many folks, the experience that they get from playing through Flower is good enough that the length isn’t a concern.
- M.C.
I hear what you’re saying. Flower is a “flight-ish” game for certain, reminding me almost of Nights.
I have no problem with short games. Hell, I wish a lot of games were much shorter than they are. I just don’t have time for it anymore. But it wasn’t just the length of Flower that gave me pause. It was just the feeling of, “They could have done so much more with this” that I had when it was done. But like I said, I sort of go back and forth with it. The experience I had playing it was mostly great and often unlike any other game I’ve played. That itself is worth the price. But when I finished it I just had this sort of unfulfilled feeling.
- John
As far as I’m concerned, short games are fine, but I put a lot of value in games that offer options and alternate ways to play through the content. That is what earns the timeless replayable triple-A award for me. Did you know one of the bigger complaints expert players have on Gradius V is that it’s too long? This game clocks in at about an hour, but the ideal time STG players (myself included) want to spend on a one-credit session is roughly 30-something minutes. This is a large complaint for many Compile games as well (Aleste series, Zanac series, etc.), being long stages are a fault and not a feature, especially when they have dead zones of no on-screen enemies for several seconds. An ideal way to maximize content of a single shmup title is to have several different ‘courses’ of 5 stages instead of one massive 8-stage trek. Developers have not thought to include this option besides the compilation multi-game packages. Raycrisis explored this by allowing users to plot a course of five stages out of a selectable eight.
But what’s the issue here with the semi-controversial Flower and FlOw?
They’re great stand-alone games, but players complain not enough is done with it.
