Drunken Zombie Podcast

October 16th, 2009 by Ryker XL

Drunken ZombiesThis being the most wonderful time of the year, I thought I might share with you a kick ass non-gaming podcast devoted to the horror genre.  I accidentally discovered this podcast last summer while searching for zombie stuff for my kid’s birthday party.  Of course with a name like “Drunken Zombies” I just had to check it out.

Brian, Dave, Uncle Randy and Wes are from Illinois and each week they watch a review a scary movie or two.  Eerily there are some similarities between the Drunken Zombies and the Drunken Gamers.  Of course they both drink, swear like sailors, and are funny as shit, but the similarities go deeper than that.

First, these guys are real, they let let you know exactly what they think about a movie.  If it sucks, they will let you know, and I for one appreciate that.  Second, they have a love for the classics and the old-school way of filming horror movies.  They feel that CG takes center screen too often and they yearn for the more films using makeup and latex to gross you out.

Third, like our friends the Drunken Gamers, they are experts in the genre that they love.  While dissecting a Cronenburg movie like The Fly, we glean deep insights into themes and social commentary that quite frankly I missed.  For fans of the genre, it’s quite fun to listen to. And lastly, the Drunken Zombies have a cast of crazed, and often hilarious fans.  For a while they had a caller deemed “The Pervert” who could easily put Phenri and Fluffy Nuts to shame.  Weekly reports from a horror aficionado named “Lord Blod-Rah” gives us a glimpse into horror movie  history; it’s well produced, fun, and provides cool horror trivia for parties.

So if you’re wanting to get a deeper look into things that go bump in the night.  Check out the Drunken Zombies, and prepare for a good time.

On-Tap Podcast #100

June 25th, 2009 by Hilden

We’ve known Dale Kulas for a number of years now, starting with our first meeting at the Midwest Gaming Classic. He writes an occasional article for Robot Panic, has more wrestling knowledge than any one man should have, does a mean Hulk Hogan impersonation and is one of the nicest people you’ll ever be privileged to meet. If that’s not enough than let’s add the fact that he’s had a gaming podcast going for quite a number of years now. That fine podcast, the On-Tap Podcast, has just reached a milestone and I think it deserves a little kudos. Doing a podcast consistently is a tough business and making it to your 100th episode is something to celebrate and we want to give a hearty congratulations to Dale and Co. for an outstanding 100 shows.

The On-Tap Podcast has always done something that not many other podcasts can claim. They’ve stayed original and have never followed the standard format or fallen victim to the cliches that other podcasts have fallen into. The On-Tap Podcast has always labeled itself as an alternative podcast and that’s true. On-Tap has always been about retrospectives and classic gaming. If you’ve been a listener, then you’ve hear them talk about the history of consoles, genres retrospectives and in general anything that nobody else bothers to take the time to talk about. That’s what the podcast has delivered for 100 episodes. So, if you haven’t been listening, then you need to check out the On-Tap Podcast. You can do so by going here.

Congratulations to Dale and the crew of On-Tap for a fantastic 100 shows! Keep up the great work!

Broken Pixels: Season 2

February 9th, 2009 by Mitch

After the fallout from the recent 1UP.com firings, many fans found themselves unsure about the future of some of their favorite 1UP properties, including many of it’s podcasts. One of the more overlooked shows lost in the shuffle was Broken Pixels, the endlessly hilarious Mystery Science Theatre 3000-style show wherein editor Shane Bettenhausen, former EGM writer Crispin Boyer and EGM contributor Sean “Seanbaby” Riley played played a myriad of terrible games with the sole intent to mock them for our amusement. The first season ended last November, with the promise of a new season in January.

But before they could premiere the second season, Bettenhausen left the company in the wake of the UGO buyout, leaving none of the Broken Pixels hosts left at the company. Most fans assumed this to be the end of the show, but apparently  the trio managed to shoot some of the new season before the shakeup, and the fruits of their labor are now being released as Broken Pixels: Season 2. There’s no word on just how much they managed to film, but for a show that many fans believed to be dead, this is certainly a great development.

The new season premiered on Friday with a send-up of the full motion video Sega CD game Wirehead, embedded after the break.
