The Sailor Jerry Store

June 23rd, 2009 by John

It was about three years ago that our good friends Savory Cade and Cap’n Rawkenschpiel introduced us to Sailor Jerry. At the time, our rum of choice was Captain Morgan and to us nothing could ever replace it. And when Savory and Cap’n first told us about the Sailor, claiming that it was far superior to our beloved pirate, we simply wrote it off as another impostor akin to Calico Jack and Admiral Nelson.

Shame on us!

One sip of the Sailor and we were sold. Not only was it stronger than Captain, it was smoother and mixed better with Coke. And as a bonus (depending on your point of view), it made us even more surly during podcasts. We never looked back and Sailor Jerry and Coke has been the favorite mixed drink of Drunken Gamers Radio ever since.

On a drunken Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia, I stumbled out of an Irish pub (more on that later), rounded the corner, and saw the sign for the Sailor Jerry store. I rubbed my bloodshot eyes and looked again. Could it be? An entire store dedicated to the greatest rum ever distilled?

Batdog!

October 13th, 2008 by John

The pre-Halloween shenanigans continue. It’s the greatest time of the year, and the entire family gets involved. My wife, myself, my son -and yes – my dog. Here is a picture of Ernie the dog doing a test-run in his unbelievably kick ass Batdog costume:

Reef: Footware with a Purpose

September 30th, 2008 by Hilden

This, my friends, is a fantastic innovation. Not only do these items do what footware should, they also solve one of mankinds most vexing problems: “Where in the hell is my bottle opener?”

My friends, it’s right underneath your feet. Where all good bottle openers should be.

Reef, purvayors of all kinds of surf inspired footware , have an entire line of sandals with the “church key for opening your ‘soda’” built in.

With innovations like these, I ask you yet again: can the flying car really be that far away?

Next thing you know, we’ll be landing on the moon.

TRKFLD: Embrace Your Man-Bag

September 18th, 2008 by John

Alright, so I carry a man-bag. So what? You wanna fight about it? Anyway, my old bag was wearing out. The zipper was coming apart at the seam, every pocket had a hole at the bottom, and it was starting to smell like shit from all the spilled OJ, long trips to MGC and E3 (yes, I’ve had it that long), and it looked like it had been run through a garbage disposal. A bag is somewhat of a necessity for my day job as it allows me to carry my lunch, iPhone, paperwork, and whatever else I need for the day. So yes, although it is a heartbeat away from a purse, Daddy needs a man-bag.

I was looking around for a suitable replacement when I remembered some ads for TRKFLD I saw in Giant Robot Magazine. I remembered the bags looking cool, functional, and durable. Unfortunately, I couldn’t remember the name of the company, but I did remember their slogan: “We Make Bags.” Simple and apparently quite effective as a quick Google search found their website. They list nearly twenty bags on their online store, and yes, a handful of them are purses. (Fuck you). I started at the top and worked my way down until I found the Tara. It looked manly enough and its description indicated that it has a padded interior for carrying laptops. Perfect. Plus, the guy in the picture is flexing his muscles; that’s totally manly, right? So I ordered it and waited for it to show up in the mail, which it did five days later. Here’s a shot:

Upon opening the box, I was immediately impressed by not only the bag, but also the package. (more…)

Fright-Rags.com

September 1st, 2008 by Hilden

How awesome is Fright-Rags.com? So awesome.

Jason Oestreicher, who you may know as one of the guys from the Interactive Distractions Podcast, sent us a link to this fantastic store and has this to say:

I know you guys are fans of all things Zombie and figured you might appeciate some of the stuff they had there. I’ve been ordering shirts from there for about a year now and gotta say… they put out some high quality shit. Also, the owner, Ben, started out doing it all from his basement. The guy’s personable as all hell and you can tell he really loves doing what he does… making fucking kick-ass horror tees. Here are some stand-outs:

Braindead/Deadalive

Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things

Monster Squad

Ash

I don’t know about you but my wallet just got a little bit lighter. There’s also a really cool section where you can see a t-shirt go from conception to design. It’s a really cool look into how these things are made.

Thanks for the link, Jason!
