Loved the show, and I am totally jealous of Moe’s cooking prowess. Keep it up my friend, it will pay off (heck probably already is). Hilden mentioned opportunities using universal remotes with a PS3. This blew my mind as well as I am a HUGE Harmony remote guy and yes it doesn’t work with the PS3. Well the good news is you could try Hilden’s remote or, grab yourself a Logitech PS3 adapter for $60 or so. I got one for my system and I love it. Keep up the great work!

I get to comment on the show like a listener! Ooooh! Fun!

Hilden, regarding Uncharted 2, I totally get what you’re saying, which is exactly why I played through it on Easy. It felt like the perfect balance for me and I didn’t feel like it was ever too easy; especially towards the end in some of those bits you mentioned. The train and the village after the train, in particular.

Also, yes, it was “Learning to Fly” where Bro #1 shouted to Bro #2, “Dude! This is OUR SONG!” and followed it with a high-five. Awkward, frat-boy, homoerotic displays of effection rule!

And finally, regarding Hulu, they are expected to roll out their pay model this week (if they haven’t already), making much of the content we’ve enjoyed for free…not for free. So the rumored PS3 thing probably has very little – if anything – to do with Sony or PSN. It’s just their new business model going forward.

Oh, and I hate you too, Moe.

  3. SimpleNate Says:

Great show, guys. DJ’s drunk dial was ridiculous. My choice to leave that party early was obviously the correct one…

  4. ilduce620 Says:

    Great show, guys.

Hilden, also regarding Uncharted 2, I played through it on Easy the first time and then skipped Normal and played it again on Hard (haven’t done Crushing yet). I’m glad I did it that way, as many parts that I found frustrating on Easy were damned near impossible on Hard (specifically, that friggin’ helicopter when you’re on the rooftops less than a 1/3 through the game). Either way, it’s still an awesome game…and if you haven’t played much online yet, you really should.

As far as Hulu goes, I’m kinda excited about the announcement, but am patiently waiting for more details. My wife and I just moved to Iowa and dropped cable when we did it, so we rely on Hulu (on my computer, attached to a 19″ monitor) and Netflix on the PS3. If I could get Hulu to work on the PS3, even for $10 a month, it would still be worth it to me…especially if they allow back content as rumored (i.e. more than just the previous 5 episodes of any given show…). Hulu allows you to get into TV shows without being nearly a year behind, as with Netflix…and, not every show is available through Netflix streaming, while Hulu has a vast catalog of shows from quite a few channels that put nothing up on Netflix.

Would I like it to be free? Yes. But, that isn’t going to happen. And ~$22/mo for Hulu+Netflix is still cheaper than cable, and will still work through my TV.

  5. ilduce620 Says:

Well, the Hulu Plus announcement is out:

    Hulu Plus Info.

There’s coverage on all the major blogs, but in short, it’s $10/mo, the service will be on PS3 in July and 360 in 2011, and they have a “Preview Invite” system in place so you can try it out before you buy.

Looking through the catalog, however, it sure looks like a lot of the content is available on Netflix Instant Queue. Perhaps I’m missing it, but I’m not seeing much info on which new shows are available on the service – it looks like, primarily, they’re only offering old shows. They mention their “Current Season Pass,” but I’m not seeing info on which shows are available (apart from the 7 on the home page), and there’s no mention on when they air on the service (i.e. a week later, like on normal Hulu?!).

If new episodes aren’t available through Hulu Plus almost immediately after airing, then the service is useless to me. If I have to pay $10/mo only to continue to wait a week to watch the shows, then I may as well wait and watch on my PC.

More info will come available as the week progresses, I’m sure…but for now, I’m not convinced.

American Girl is my song, bros.

  7. Rusty Shackleford Says:

I don’t get how Sony can say you get free games for PS Plus when they take them away from you when you stop paying for them. I don’t flip through my cable going “I can’t believe I get all these channels free!”

  8. helicine Says:

This morning I found out the hard way that if you subscribe to PSN Plus, you can only use the auto-update feature on ONE console. Maybe that had been mentioned in the coverage about it, but I hadn’t heard anything about that little caveat.

  9. carrotpanic Says:

What is auto-update anyway? My system and games automatically update as it is now.

  10. BenFromOhio Says:

Come on Hilden, an Uncharted 2 review in late june.>???

  11. John Says:

Listening skills, sir. It wasn’t a review. It was during the “What’s On Tap” segment and he was talking about his backlog. Next time we’ll draw you a picture.

  12. BenFromOhio Says:

John: I can tell you where to put that picture.
I’m just saying, that was as much if a review as anyother review that has been done on the show.
I was hoping that I would never hear that title again after all of the “game of the year episodes” I heard last year.
    Thanks for being rude.

  13. John Says:

I’m just saying, there’s probably a fast-forward or stop button on your listening device of choice. If you don’t want to hear something, I suggest you utilize one of them rather than making pithy remarks about how we’re not catering to your specific needs. That segment is not to talk about “current” games, necessarily. It’s to talk about what we’re playing. Again, if you don’t want to hear it, don’t listen to it.

  14. Ryker XL Says:

As a new PS3 owner, Uncharted 2 is one of those games on my LIST that perhaps I haven’t played yet. While I payed attention to the review last time, no mention on how hard that game was was mentioned. Now I know I should play that one on easy. THANKS GUYS!!!

  15. BenFromOhio Says:

    John:
Please look at my original comment and read it like it is from someone you don’t hate. It’s been a while since I left a comment, didn’t mean to upset. Let me know when you guys don’t hate me and read my comments with a lighter tone and not like I’m trying to start trouble.

  16. BenFromOhio Says:

Come on ryker, you never start a game off in easy!

  17. John Says:

*After a long night of podcasting and dealing with anonymous pricks trying to cause trouble in the Ustream chatroom, John wakes up refreshed, with a renewed vigor and positive outlook on life. He sees the original message from BenFromOhio and decides to tackle it anew…*

    Dearest BenFromOhio,

Firstly, thank you so much for listening to our podcast. Each and every listener is valuable to us and we genuinely appreciate you taking the time to listen and comment on our work.

Secondly, regarding your well-worded and extremely constructive criticism of Hilden’s Uncharted 2 discussion, it should be noted that the “What’s On Tap” segment is sort of a catch-all for when one of our three hosts is playing a game that he feels like discussing. The game could be a recent release, something from his backlog, or even a retro game. In fact, in the past, we’ve discussed games that have been released as far back as the early 1980s.

We understand your desire to hear about the most up-to-date, new wave of video games. That’s a passion we share. And we promise, each week you’ll find news on the most current batch of video games near the top of our show in our “Reviews” segment.

Again, we’d like to thank you for your support and for taking the time to construct such a thoughtful and passionate comment. We hope you continue to enjoy Drunken Gamers Radio. Have a great 4th of July weekend.

    Go America!

    Sincerely,
    John Luedtke

  18. BenFromOhio Says:

    Dear John,
Thanks bunches. I hope your day is full of sunshine, rainbows, and unicorns.
    Love,
    BenFromOhio

  19. Ryker XL Says:

    Ben,
you are right, I normally play most of my games on Normal and plow my way through them. However, there are games that are more challenging than others and yet I want to experience the story and as such, playing on Easy is the way to go. I cannot tell you how many games sit unfinished because they had sections that were just too hard to get through or in some cases broken. If I know this going in, I can make a better decision as to how I want to experience the game.

Sunshine, and rainbows to you as well

    America… F Yeah!

  20. MeatMan Says:

I guess using BBCode causes your post to not display at all. Good to know. Here’s the non-BBCode version…

Did someone say rainbows and unicorns? http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt289/stylos21/RainbowUnicorn.jpg

John, that last post is so full of win it made me LOL. A fine way to start the day on this 4th of July. Thanks for that. :)

    P.S. USA FTW

  21. Evil Neil Says:

“What is auto-update anyway? My system and games automatically update as it is now.”

I’m assuming it is the “ability” to download/install updates while you’re playing games?

I’m not sure though. Sony has done a shit job at promoting PS+ IMO. The official PS Blog is really confusing as to what your $50 will get you. It comes off to me as a glorified online rental/leasing “service” that you have no means to pick what you want to play. Ooh, Rally Cross. Wow. Go fuck yourselves, SoA.

If the “game trial” of Infamous is any indication, that part of it is a total joke. Gotta have 12+ GB free on your HD, wait for a 6GB download, and then you can only play for an hour?
