Great Show, and I really loved the Steve Lycett interview!
However as the self appointed Robot Panic Mass Effect 2 Ambassador, I feel I have to make a few comments.
1. ME2 is the best game I have played this year. Best game of last 4 years…probably not. Sorry
2. As a dude YOU CAN romance an alien and I fact I DID receive the achievement for relations WITH AN ALIEN in that game. Yes this makes me a huge nerd BUT the relationship I had with Tali was heartfelt and real whereas Miranda felt like more of a prize than something real.
3. For the record YOU CAN have same sex relations should you choose to do so.
That’s it, thanks again guys!
PUNCH PUNCH GO!
PS. Fluffy at MGC… I’m not sure that even the city of Milwaukee can handle this…

You know what they say about alien sex…
Any holes a goal

ok randomly I know Steve and I had no idea he was gonna be on the show holy fuck. But seriously, as I told him, Sonic plus friends in ANY game is wrong. That and stop making me want Shenmue 3!

I hope you guys record a show with Fluffy – that’s going to be a keeper.
Heavy Rain is a tough game to review – I think everyone is going to have a different opinion on how good or how bad this game is. For me it’s somewhere in the middle – I hated doing all the pointless shit like putting plates on a table or pushing your kid on a swing and there was a lot of of that and there was a lot of that in Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy which is why I didn’t like that game. But the “action” sequences are a lot more fun and interesting and the story is very well paced. So I think it’s definitely worth checking out but I don’t think it’s one of the best games of all time like some of the critics are saying.
March 4th, 2010 at 4:57 pm
I would argue that putting plates on the table, pushing your kid on a swing, etc., is not at all pointless. In fact, it’s half the point of the game. It helps establish the character, the relationship he has with his family, etc. Hilden alluded to this in our discussion, but this isn’t a “gamey” game and it never was intended to be. To me, it’s much more about emotion, story, and attempting to get the player to connect with the characters and the situation in a completely different way than just about any other game I can think of.
March 4th, 2010 at 8:20 pm
Actually I think the random stuff like doing the plates etc is a huge part of why I love this game so much. It’s breaking down the barriers further between real life and interactive video game, something that Shenmue arguably kicked off and I’m glad something else is taking the reigns and furthering the QTE controls in a new and more interesting direction.

I’m loving Sonic All Stars… I pretty much described the game almost exactly like your review while telling my wife about it the other day, except I want Vyse and Skies of Arcadia DLC.
We need to get this thing going for another DGR Game night, it’s been flawless for me so far online.

To each their own in the end – I couldn’t wait to get past these bits and to me it felt like I was playing The Sims. But saying that – it hasn’t made me want to turn off the game or not play it so that’s saying something.
March 5th, 2010 at 2:33 am
Ironically, I can’t stand The Sims

That dude is one hell of an interviewee. If you asked me to talk with that much zest and passion about Sonic the Hedgehog or *harr* Big the Cat, I would fail miserably. He not only succeeded, but also succeeded in making me download the demo and play the game.

I bought Sonic racing this weekend. It is great. I wish there was an option to shut the stupid announcer up during the race.
I hope that all of you Sonic haters will play this and have a big blue mushroom stamp on your foreheads.
March 7th, 2010 at 9:28 pm
You can shut off the announcer. It’s in the options.
And Sonic doesn’t make the game good. The game is good in spite of his presence.

@awesomo316 I’ve been watching a walkthrough Heavy Rain and the pointless parts you mentioned are the ones I’m skipping.
March 8th, 2010 at 10:04 am
Thanks, didnt realize you could do that.
In my opinion, Sonic makes the game great. If it was a bunch of no names I wouldnt care as much. I like having familiar characters and growing up with a genesis and loving Sonic makes this a great game for me.
While playing this I realized how the Mushroom Kingdom makes a way more exciting setting. I like the Sega tracks and settings but they just dont have the character of the Mushroom Kingdom and all of the different characters. Even the obscure characters in Mario people love, like Koopa Troops and Bullet Bills.

@skreesha – Some I think you can skip but think there are some other tasks you need to perform in order to trigger the next scene/conversation – similar to adventure games. I don’t want to say which ones but like I said – each to their own. I didn’t seem them as necessary but I might see on my second playthrough how much I can skip. I really like the “action” sequences though – very tense.
