For the original Xbox Live getting shut down, Halo 2 hasn’t been on the most played list for a long time. According to Bungie’s stats, Halo 2 had 3,551 players in the last 24 hours on 2.9.2010. Halo 3 had 490,373. It’s no surprise that MS wants to shut down the old live servers.

One of the reasons River Raid is so cool for it’s time, was because it was designed by the top programmers who all left Atari. Back in the 70s when the 2600 was so popular, Game designers received very little pay and almost no credit for any game they developed (very different from today’s model). So when Atari told their developers to be quiet and we’re not going to give you more money or credit for the games, the top ones gave them the finger and created their own company “Activision.” Before they became the evil giant corporation they are today, Activision treated customers of the 2600 with rich graphics and superior gameplay to their Atari counterparts.
Interesting and fun facts for the board members I love so much… not you three assholes… I hate you guys…

So, I have only played the MAG beta and don’t own the retail game, but from what I understand listening to other podcasts, Zipper is trying to maintain some kind of faction balance in requiring you to stick with one character for a long period of time. Mostly, this is for their long-term “meta game” that MAG is supposed to be doing, where after a period of time (a month? I dunno how long…), whichever faction has the most wins under their belt, everyone on that team gets an XP bonus. Therefore, if you were to have multiple characters, you could potentially figure out which faction is doing the best and only play on their side in order to get the XP bonus, leaving very few other people in the other factions. I’m under the impression the bonus is a relatively substantial one.
At least, I think that’s their reasoning, or what I’ve heard about it. I agree, though, that being locked into one character for 60 levels seems a bit excessive, but it appears Zipper did it on purpose. I’m not sure what else they could have done to maintain the same effect, except perhaps allowing you to create another character at level 30 or something.
Am I wrong on this? Did anyone else hear that, or did I just pull that out of my ass?

Big props to Moe for his work as host this week – fine work mate.

I’m glad you enjoyed it, because it looks like it’s going to be just Moe and I again this weekend.

The A-team back again two weeks in a row – looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Bioshock 2 – I’ve been playing it myself but haven’t checked out the multiplayer yet

What happened to Hilden? Did he have a mental break? Did the Yukon Jack I sent in take him down a bottomless spiral of alcoholism? Is he in sex rehab with Tiger??
Moe did a good job, but I missed Hilden yelling dirty stuff.

Nothing happened to Hilden. His wife’s been really busy lately and Hilden’s had other commitments on the weekend. When you have two kids, sometimes it’s hard to schedule time to do a podcast.

Ok John, gotcha, sex rehab with Tiger. Give him my best.

*in Hilden’s nerd voice* I hope Hilden has been kicked off the show for mixing up Factor 5 with Level 5 on the last show he was on. Factor 5 makes the Star Wars games and Level 5 makes RPGs like Dark Cloud and Rogue Galaxy.

Yep, we’ve covered that. He’s been thoroughly mocked and ridiculed.
