Good work Phil, now I want to buy that game. I forgot how to purchase disc games.
Sorry to cameo the live stuff. Have long hours these weeks.

I have to agree with John’s take on Dark Void. I too enjoyed Crimson Skies. It was one of the first games I played through twice and the first real multiplayer game I ever really got into. While this game has some of that feel to it, the controls simply suck. I’m one of those inverted Y guys (hate me) and like John I plummeted into the abyss on my first flight. I inverted the controls and things got easier. But then I landed on the platform and discovered the third person shooter controls were just off. I had to invert the Y again for ground controls as it automatically invereted for my gun sight (who does that cmon?) but once I fixed that the controls seemed too loose for a shooter. My target went wherever the heck it wanted and after 5 minutes of that garbage I deleted the demo.
Bayonetta sounds like a blast, I will have to check that out. Thanks again for a great show Gamers with Drinks…

@Ryker I also play inverted and tried the flight controls both ways. I think my problem was that I’m not used to using the left stick to move up and down. It’s been awhile since I played Crimson Skies. When I forced myself to take my thumb off the right stick, the controls got a little easier.

I’d like to note that while we recorded this episode and the After Hours we set up a webcam and a room mic and broadcasted on Ustream in what we lovingly refer to as “lo-fi”. It’s not the highest quality, nor are there multiple cameras or any of the fancier stuff we tend to do for proper live shows, but we’ll probably continue to do this somewhat regularly in the future. To find out when these broadcasts will take place, check out our Twitter feed as that’s where we give the info.

fuck twitter
January 13th, 2010 at 1:23 pm
Ok. Thanks for that.

anytime

I agree. Fuck Twitter. I already jumped on MySpace and Facebook to see what people are up to. I don’t need a third site…. and the TG-16 doesn’t have the coolest carts because they are actually cards. It would be awesome if the game companies started using their own unique game boxes for the next generation.
January 13th, 2010 at 3:14 pm
Ha! Nice work, Rusty. Very sly.
Well, regardless of your random thoughts on said site, the fact remains: if you care to find out when we’re throwing up the live feed, you’ll have to keep an eye on the Twitter feed.

That cartridge comment was weird timing. Just a few days ago I picked up some NES games, put them on my gaming rack and then started thinking about how cool the the different carts were, and how cool carts where in general. Sure it’s nice now with discs because you have a much easier time to find complete used games but there is just something cool about hunks of plastic with a sticker on the front.

Hey Hilden, what year is it? At the start of the show when you said 2009 I actually looked at my ipod to make sure it was the new episode and i didnt accidentally play an old one.
Hey John boy, why dont you just let us know on here. I am anti-online social networking so I dont have any of the twatters and facespace’s. I really want to watch you guys perform, especially if there is nudity involved.
Bayonetta is awesome, everyone needs to give it a whirl. I wasnt sure about buying it, but I did and I do not regret it. It actually took me away from modern warfare 2 and bowsers inside story. Its so hard to split time between good games.
January 13th, 2010 at 8:16 pm
You know… you don’t need to have a Twitter account. There’s a link just underneath the show logo which will take you right there; and besides, it’s easier for us. Therefore, it is.
January 13th, 2010 at 8:36 pm
Thanks moe, I didnt know you could check out a post without logging in. Good to know.

Why is everyone against Twitter, it’s the easiest thing to do, fuck facebook with all of it’s confusing bullshit, and Twitter is the birth place of #suckitandrich
January 14th, 2010 at 9:39 am
I’m not against Twitter. I just find it useless when we have Facebook.
January 14th, 2010 at 10:01 am
Fuck it, let’s just start a fan-out calling list.
January 14th, 2010 at 10:03 am
Oh God, Delerat just called in drunk to the GWJ voicemail line thinking it was you guys and they played it!
January 14th, 2010 at 12:06 pm
Ben, you do make a good point.
I’m figuring out a way to get our Twitter feed to interact with the RP main site in a way that isn’t fucking stupid. So, keep your eyes peeled if you would rather not use Twitter.
January 14th, 2010 at 1:03 pm
@carrotpanic: Just heard that. Wow…that put the brakes on their show, didn’t it? Good thing they placed it at the end!
Delerat, to answer your question, that’d be awesome. You have our blessing.

Great show, guys. I just wanted to chime in on two things:
Thank you so much for reviewing Megamania. Back in the olden days, I would get dropped off at a neighbor next to the religious school I went to. It was filthy, there was a mangy dog, and we would play 2600 games before and after school.
This commercial was burned into my head: http://bit.ly/4kEHdo
Also, thanks for confirming that my wife and I were not insane. We thought Coraline’s 3D washed out all the colors, but our son thought it was fine. I wasn’t sure if it was our aging retinas or not.
January 14th, 2010 at 6:24 pm
When I was listening to the conversation, I was wondering if Hilden had masturbated too much and was too blind to observe the awesomeness of modern 3D, a la “Avatar.”
Did you guys see “Avatar?” …’cause when I saw it, the colors seemed unchanged, as compared with your red/blue old school 3D tech. The more modern 3D process is drastically different, where the old way of doing it uses Anaglyph images (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anaglyph_image), and the other uses Polarized images (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polarized_3D_glasses). If I’m reading correctly, the TVs will use LCD shutter glasses (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shutter_glasses#LCD_Glasses_Providers).
Either way, the implementation in “Avatar” was pretty badass, and I’d consider playing some games with it, but not many. I agree with you guys, though, I don’t want to have to pull out 10 sets of glasses for people to watch the Super Bowl in 3D. This will only be a niche, and probably will never go fully mainstream. Still, it’d be nice to have the ability for some applications.
January 14th, 2010 at 9:26 pm
See bitches? That’s what I was trying to say. The current digital 3D stuff (such as the shit seen IN THEATERS with Avatar and UP) is different than the old school 3D glasses shit and the current run of stuff released on DVD and Bluray. You may have noticed that Coraline, Monsters vs. Aliens, and other movies look like shit when you watch them in the shitty 3D at home on your normal HDTVs. That’s because our current HDTVs aren’t equipped to handle digital 3D and that shit’s just fudged. There are actual new TVs designed to utilize this technology and I believe Mitsubishi just unveiled a new 3DTV that shows the new 3D technology without the need for glasses. Can’t imagine many people are ready to upgrade so quickly after taking the leap to HD, though. In addition, current Bluray players aren’t able to play 3D movies, which is why Sony just announced that all PS3s will get this ability soon through a firmware update.
Anyway, the 3D in Avatar adds depth-of-field effects and other shit that wasn’t possible in 3D before. I think of it like looking at a pop up book as opposed to a normal picture book. It’s not just like Jaws swimming at you slowly and the other gimmicky shit from before.
Not saying it’s going to become mainstream, but it’s already proven itself to be pretty cool in video games at this year’s CES.

You cocks never listen to me.
January 14th, 2010 at 9:56 pm
That’s because you’re wrong.
January 14th, 2010 at 10:09 pm
Thanks, John.
If I was reading correctly, it’s only picking up steam because the polarization technology of LCDs require at least a 120 Hz refresh rate. Even then, it takes some crazy tricks with the pixels (as in, layering of them?) to get it right.
I think I read over the holidays that, by 2015, 30% of people will have “3D-capable TVs,” so whether you use the 3D capability, you’ll probably be able to take advantage of it.
Of course, who knows if the PS3 will be around in 2015 or not, or if the PS4 and Xbox 720 have taken over. Nintendo, however, will release the Wii 2 featuring 720p and DVD playback.

Not interested AT ALL…. unless…… PORN in 3d? ladys and gents, we have a winner…. nothing like bodily fluids being splashed around in true HD 3D… Bring it!!!!
January 15th, 2010 at 2:34 am
@benfromohio, 3D porn, please I’m still searching for a HD blu Ray porn
January 15th, 2010 at 5:05 am
Got to agree with John on Nolan North – he seems to voice every character I play these days – it kind of disconnects me from the character because all I’m thinking about is Uncharted.
January 15th, 2010 at 10:43 am
I fuckin’ hate you Moe.
January 15th, 2010 at 11:55 am
3D TV is going to be awesome. I can just picture getting one of those in my house and then throwing a party to show it off.
Me: Alright ladies and gentlemen, let’s all sit dead center for some awesome 3D football.
Everyone else: Dead center? All of us can’t sit there. Some of us will have to sit at angles.
Me: Sucks to be you. The rest of you get out your special 3D glasses so you can see the TV correctly.
Everyone else: We didn’t bring any 3D glasses. None of us own a 3D TV so why would we have our own 3D glasses?
Me: Sucks to be you. Now pass the pretzels.
-hears the door slam-
Me: After the game we we’re going to play Rock Band with all drum kits right? I hope at least one of you wasn’t a dick and brought extra drum kits since I don’t own the game and will need a drum kit to play. Guys? Hello?
