SHOCKtober! Sleepaway Camp
Holy lord god, this is fucking awesome! I’m dead serious: buy, rent, or steal this movie right now! What at first seems like a shameless ripoff of Friday the 13th winds up being one of the most unforgettable horror movies ever made.
Now, I have to clarify: this movie is mostly terrible. It’s low-budget, horribly acted, and the story is completely ridiculous. The movie follows the standard formula of naughty kiddies getting brutally picked off at summer camp. Nobody knows who’s doing it, but the camp director has his suspicions. Is it the skank? The street-wise kid? The mousy girl? The horny counselors? Nobody knows. And by the end of the movie, you probably won’t care.
But you need – NEED – to see it.
As you sit through the film wondering if it will ever end, tempted to reach for the remote to hit the “eject” button, I implore you: hold on until the very end. It’s more than worth it and you won’t regret it.
BEST. KILLER. EVER.

I’m a big killer ending scene kind of guy myself. In fact some of my favorite movies of all time had endings I never saw coming. “The Sting,” “Diggstown” had suprise holy crap endings that I LOVE sharing with my friends. The only difference is I didn’t have to endure something awful to get there. The “Saw” series is a good example of modern day marginal films with fantastic endings. However I will say that “Saw 4″ is where they jumped the shark because I TOTALLY saw the end of Saw 5 coming. John is right, the end of this flick is a huge WTF ending, but I do wonder if the payoff is worth the other 80 minutes of the show.
For those who want to fully understand what John and I are talking about, without investing 80 hours of your life that you will never get back, may I suggest going to YouTube and search for “Sleepaway Camp Ending” You’ll find several posts there and you can enjoy the WTF moment and then move on to better shows.

No, no. Fuck that! They need to sit through the rest of this shitfest so they can truly appreciate the greatness of this ending.

Me and the lady will have this on in the background at our Halloween party. And REANIMATOR. Sweet jesus John, tell me you’ll feature ReAnimator for SOCKTOBER. And maybe Basketcase 2. But mostly REANIMATOR.

The days when I actively sought out crap cinema have passed, so I took the YouTube route on the ending, figuring I’ll never get around to watching Sleepaway Camp.
For those of you who enjoy those ineffable WTF moments in your movies, this one delivers.

Holy cosmic coincidence… This movie slipped into my consciousness not too long ago as my mind drifted. I saw this movie when I was MAD young and could barely understand the plot.
All I remember was my parents making my close my eyes a LOT.
But the thing that’s killed me throughout the decades is at the >very< end my eyes were covered a final time and there were gasps all around ad the mad surprise ending. Been fucking dying to see what the final shot was for the final reveal.
Until now, it was pretty much a hopeless effort to try and remember the name of this flick.
Thanks, John!
Want another kickass horror movie… hit up Slither.
Thanks again!
