Drunken Gamers Radio: 09.25.2009

Witness our shortest show ever! We’re throwing this one out there as a shout out to Mr. Rusty “I Love Short Shows” Shackleford. Here’s to you! While it may be short, rest assured it’s full of all the piss and vinegar you expect from DGR. Wait, that sounds gross. And something requiring medical attention.
We’ll make up for it next week. PROMISE.
Thanks for listening!

DRUNK.
I think that was the most wated you guys have been in the 1.5 years I’ve been listening. Awesome. Pity for the short show, but I’m looking forward to next week.
As a reminder to all people in the TC area, Surly’s Darkness will be on cask at the 501 Club in Mpls tomorrow the 29th at 8PM. I don’t know if it will be this year’s version or last years, but it’s likely it is this year’s. My wife and I will be there a bit before 8, for anyone who wants to join.
Spot on with the Brutal Legend demo review. I was grinning the whole time playing and my wife was also intrigued by it, which is a miracle in itself. For anyone who misses metal when it was all about demons and hot chicks, this is the game for you. My only gripe was also about the combat, which seemed to be a bit easy, even on the Brutal setting.
Looking forward to next week!

Hmmm I wonder what next week couild be? Could it possibly coincide with the greatest time of the year??

What the hell? I just listened to this and realized just how idiotic Moe’s Last Shot question was.
It basically amounted to this:
“Translate Le…le…fuoor…uh…fuoortes…erm…fuoorte, or fuorle…something…mortes. And GO!”
I think in our drunken/tired state we didn’t have the wherewithall to call him on his bullshit. But I’m calling it now: TRIPLE SHOT!

I don’t like them this short! Haha.

I’m forbidden to listen to the show until I can listen with Kelly, but after recording the short segments for the Married Gamers I wondered if I should contact you guys the next day to ask if you’re SURE you want us to use what you three gave us.
Moe especially. Moe was Super-the-Drunkest Moe and gave some “interesting” answers.
Can’t wait to listen.

Personally I liked when Moe said that the music was not metal because it was, in fact, “aluminum.”
Guess what Moe…

Sounds like you guys had a great time before the show.
I agree with Jon, Moe gets a triple shot for not being able to pronounce the French. Can’t give shots when you can’t ask the question properly.

I actually bought Kings of the Beach earlier this year for $2 because I thought it was Super Spike V-ball. I liked the game more than John did, but it was still no Super Spike V-ball.

Super Spike! That’s the game I was trying to think of. Nice one.

I’m going to loosely classify Windjammers as a beach volleyball type game, because that is the best “loosely classified as a beach volleyball type game” game.

I actually created an account just to say this:
your show is brilliant when you’re this wasted. It was awesome even when I couldn’t understand what the hell you were talking about.

I played Kings of the Beach as a DOS game on my friend’s parent’s PC back in the day. Being a child of the Atari 2600, I didn’t find the controls to be “clunky” at all. Arrow keys to move and 3 other keys for actions (one for bump, one for set and one for spike). What I really liked about the controls is that you could control the direction of your spike (and serve too, but really it’s all about the spike). After your guy gets “locked” into position as your teammate bumps or sets to you, hold down one of the arrow keys while you spike to send it in that direction.
Maybe John was too drunk when he played and was suffering from a lack of motor skills.
Anyway, I found this site where you can play the NES version online: http://nintendo8.com/game/396/kings_of_the_beach/
*NOTE: To spike, you have to press Z and X together.

Super Volleyball on Genesis was my fix for hot 16-bit volleyball action!

I suspect that what he was trying to say was: Les feuilles morts (or maybe mortes), which is pronounced Lay fay mort. To this canadian, who speaks french, that was the best part of the show.
October 5th, 2009 at 5:24 pm
That’s it! See, perfectly good question.
October 6th, 2009 at 2:14 pm
Yup. It’s not your fault if John and Hilden were either
(a)too much in the bag; or
(b) just not intelligent enough
to figure it out.
