Drunken Gamers Radio: 08.16.2009

August 18th, 2009 by Hilden

In a weekend full of toddler birthday parties, we take a minute out of putting together race tracks and playing with Play-Doh and talk about some games. This week it’s Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor and Trials HD.

We award the winner of our contest for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 in our Feature Presentation and we talk about the demise of Chromehounds and much more in 5 Things.

Thanks to all who entered the contest and a big thanks again to Santa Faust for donating the prize.

Thanks for listening!

I’m looking forward to listening to this tomorrow. I trust there’s at least one carrot cake comment in there during the Karateka review?

Holy shit, Phneri’s contest entry blew them all away … well, except SantaFaust’s, but he was the one who offered up the prize!

  3. Santa Faust Says:

I want to add that Trials HD comes with a fantastic level editor, too. It’s really robust. They say it’s got all the same tools the designers built their levels with so you can make some really wild tracks of your own. The downside is you can only share tracks amongst Friends so if you see a buddy with some good content be sure to post it on your game profile, too, for your Friends to enjoy.

Also, necrophilia is ALWAYS hilarious… but, ugh, the mess! Keep a mop handy.

another great podcast. The last 5 min of the podcast you talk about the Medici house videos on netflix. Everytime I hear that family name I am reminded of the game Darklands that I played obsessively in college. Once I learned that they were actually a real family, I read a few books about the family and have watched the video you speak of on the podcast.

Another thing…Karateka was awesome on the Apple II! I think I played it on the II+ or my C64..can’t remember.. What I do remember was that my friends and I would challenge to see how far you could sprint…and at the last second drop into your stance without getting thwacked. And yes..the sentries are quick to take out, the boss at the end was longer.

Hey, I’m not even done with the podcast yet, but the system that guy was looking at was the Mario World System Set which includes everything it did when the system came out. Poor box, but a copy of Super Mario World and two controllers for the system. It’s one of the tougher boxes to find, as it was the original and while it was quite popular, many of the earliest boxes tend to get trashed by people when they get them.

We don’t currently have any regular original SNES consoles in stock, just a couple of the SNES 2 consoles, which again are rarer and more expensive. The SNES has been flying out of here whenever we get them in stock!

Hope that helps… whomever was looking :)

I was really into this episode until Hilden had to go and ruin it by saying “gyped” A gypsy might have ripped you off, but please don’t insult an entire people for that.

  7. Rusty Shackleford Says:

And next week when reviewing Shadow Complex can we cut back on the “Metroidvania”? That style is just regular old Metroid. Or maybe you can start a new word with that review and say “Metroidvaniacomplex.” That would actually be awesome now that I think about it.

  8. shockermike Says:

    AS ALWAYS GUYS…GREAT SHOW!

  9. Santa Faust Says:

I already coined the term “Metaltroid Gearstlevania” for describing Shadow Complex. I’m hoping it’s retarded enough to catch on.

Sorry if I offended any retards with that statement. I wasn’t trying to offend you, but I know you’re probably too stupid to understand that.

  10. fluffy_nuts Says:

hey guys, just so you know I wasn’t offended by anything you said last week, infact I played it to a bunch of mates and they loved it

  11. Moe Says:

No, man. We didn’t think so. But your voice mails, our immediate assumptions, and your subsequent explanation were so damn funny, it had to be reprised. Well done!

  12. fluffy_nuts Says:

glad I could make you happy

  13. cymru_lp Says:

great show again guys, cant believe Sega Megadrive is 20 years old. Although the good ole master system holds more memories for me.

You guys in the US get the free motorbike game with the Master System?

  14. the_dude08 Says:

Moe, I have to say I am a bit of a Math geek so I had to take issue with a statement you made. Hilden said something to the effect that the game Trials HD used physics for something and you corrected him saying I think its ‘gravity’. Technically your both right but physics is basically a study of various forms of gravity along with friction and other forces.
