+1 on the Radiolab podcast. Some of the best radio out there.

Great Show, loved the dramatic forum readings, very poetic and dare I say, SPOT ON!

Lots of E3 goodness and I for one am probably gonna go broke this Holiday Season. One game that has me very intrigued is “Brutal Legend.” I LOVE how they have put so many iconic METAL Album cover stuff in ths game. In the first few moments of the game you descend from a mountain of skulls. An EFFING MOUNTAIN OF SKULLS DUDE! I can only imagine what other Rock Easter eggs are in this game. I can’t Wait!

  3. Savory Cade Says:

Yo, slight correction. Scrubsport.com is completely separate from VGEvo.com. It just happens to be run by 2 of the podcasts on the VGEvo network.

45 hours? Pshhhhaw, I’ve put in about 115 between both versions of SF4. Pussies. :p

  4. John Says:

@Savory: Sounds like you need to knock up your wife. Get to work!

My favorite thing said during this episode was from Moe: Alan’s Wake. Hilarious.

  5. M.C. Says:

I’ve long since stopped visiting the message boards on all the big-name sites. Was there really that much of an outcry over MGS: Rising? A few scattered fanatics, I can understand; and as this week’s episode illustrates, these fanatics are good for a laugh if nothing else. But if there’s any cause for outrage here, it’s that the teaser they showed for it was so ungodly awful.

For those who haven’t seen this teaser yet, picture an image of Raiden’s face haphazardly covered with duct tape. Now imagine someone loading that image into iMovie and going crazy with the Ken Burns Effect. That is, to date, the entirety of what has been shown regarding MGS: Rising; and while I have no problem with the concept of a new Metal Gear starring Raiden, it’s hard to muster up any emotion over a concept alone.

Compare that with the very strong “first look” teaser for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow that was unveiled during E3 this past week. I’m disappointed how little discussion this teaser has gotten elsewhere– GWJ is the only podcast I’ve heard mention it at all. And that’s a shame, as I’m really excited for this game. Konami hasn’t been able to make a 3D Castlevania that was worth a damn, so now they’ve enlisted the help of a talented Spanish developer, brought on Hideo Kojima to oversee development, and given the game an A-list voice cast. These decisions, combined with that trailer, give me a lot of confidence that this game is headed in the right direction.

  6. John Says:

Listen a little further into this episode, MC. We talk briefly about Castlevania. And yes: it looks fucking incredible and I too can’t believe how little coverage it’s gotten. The only reason I saw it was because one of the 1up editors posted the trailer in his blog. WTF? That’s it?!

  7. Zinswin Says:

A really funny, strong show this week, guys. Those were some of the best dramatic readings ever… and the running gag made me chuckle.

The game is was disappointed to hear nothing about was Dead Rising 2. I was hoping for a fall release.

It also looks like all 3 companies were a bit loose with release dates. Of all those really big games that were seen, how many will we see by the end of this year? Not too many, I think.

  8. Wraitheist Says:

Good show, guys. Glad to see the “what we’re playing” was incorporated into 5 things. Perfect.

Funny someone mentioned the t-shirts..i was actually considering getting one. They look pretty awesome and don’t give off that video game geek vibe that many gaming-related shirts do. Sounds like you guys have some store stuff in the works, though…should I hold off?

By the way…is there a reason that you guys don’t actually have forums on the site? It’s awesome being able to chat here in the comments, but it would be cool to be able to hang out with the community in that way.

  9. John Says:

@Wraithiest: We’ve got some ideas for stuff, but nothing imminent. Earliest would be this fall/winter, I would guess.

Also, we used to have forums, but that’s a long story.

  10. Aaron "Lag" Sawatzky Says:

@Wraithiest: The ex Forms are the reason for the flack I get from the Drunken Gamers

  11. John Says:

@Wraithiest: Not the only reason, as you can probably discern from his comment.

  12. Wolf-Bot Says:

The dramatic forum readings are great. I loved the one about the loyalty and honour in Japan, like he had just watched the last samurai or something.

I must agree that you are angry violent people. You hate on things you don’t like and use any vulgar language that you can think of to put it the ground and drive a stake through its heart. On the flip side when you like something you fucking love it (I will take my shot after typing). I think that a lot of people will agree with me that it you could find out the same info that is in DGR in other ways. None of them would be anywhere near as much fun as what you guys make it.

  13. Savory Cade Says:

I’ve still got two Team Fremont Live T-shirts. I’ll let them go to the highest bidder, they may have some pit stains though. :D

Sin & Punishment 2 was at E3, just not in the Nintendo Conference. Looks and plays fantastic, even seems almost finished. Can’t believe it’s so far off. When I asked the lovely Booth Babe if it was coming to Wiiware or Retail, she replied “No, Virtual Console.” LOL

Anyway, no time for kids! When I’m not playing SF4, my wife is. In fact there’s a sign-up for a Scrub Sport Ladies League right now:
    http://scrubsport.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=153
If your wife, girlfriend or Mom wants to get in on it, have them sign-up.

They’re also taking a survey to see if anyone is interested in BlazBlue or King of Fighters 12 leagues:

  14. Aaron "Lag" Sawatzky Says:

24 hours into an RPG? pfff I currently have 60+ on my main Fallout 3 Profile, and I don’t even have all the achievements yet

Why is it that most of your Canadian fan base is from Alberta (excluding Yellow Machine)?

  15. Mitch Says:

It’s because you don’t bother to change the location when you send in emails as different people, Aaron. ;)

  16. Aaron "Lag" Sawatzky Says:

sorry, that was supposed to be 44 hours

and @Mitch: shhhs…..your NOT supposed to tell them that….but seriously…why Alberta?

  17. Bleak Harvest Says:

By the power of Skeletors magic bollocks!!! Have to post this quickly…

Loooong time listener, first time poster. It is just past midnight and I was just about to climb into my bed to spend some with my wife (take notes, Mark) and remind my her that she is the love of my life (not, in fact, Schlitz) when the dramatic reading of a forum post came on. I had to climb out of bed whilst containing a gut laugh — trying not pass out from holding my breath — find the way to the bathroom in the dark and tear my iPod headphones out so I didn’t fall on it when I fell on the floor laughing!!

Christ, I had to sit down on the shitter and register, finally, to thank you for a completely unexpected work of mother fucking art! Also to protip that trying to quietly enjoy the show in bed is a bloody terrible idea.

    Loyally, Matt “Bleak Harvest” Hodgkins

  18. Bleak Harvest Says:

P.S. Every night in the Killzone 2 MP I am serenaded by the enchanting sound of “TROPHIES YO” from friends and random canon fodder. Congrats on creating a meme (which may or not be on urban dictionary by now).

  19. awesomo316 Says:

I… loved… the dramatic readings. The first Kojima one and the Nintendo one at the end made me almost piss my pants. Just hillarious. The single gun shot and thump at the end was the icing on the cake. Well done good sirs.

As for PSOne titles – I want to see Silent Hill. The “reimagining” is apparently not going to have combat. Instead you’ll use obstacles like bookcases and tables to stop monsters from getting to you. I’d rather play the original with shittier graphics then play the new one with shittier gameplay.

  20. Santa Faust Says:

Three cheers for the return of Dramatic Forum Readings. En masse, too. I never get my fill of that sweet alchemy for turning leaden stupidity into comedy gold.

I thought Hil’s review of Red Faction: Guerilla was pretty spot-on. Big, dumb, loud, fun. The plotline is less tangible than Bigfoot’s pet unicorn but if ya likes blowin’ shit up real good? Welcome home.

Yes, the Versus mode last seen in Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory was the Greatest Thing Ever. It’s true! Look it up.

Finally, can we please cut Valve some slack for releasing another Left 4 Dead so soon? Valve has been good to the gaming community for a very long time and I don’t see any sense in losing our fucking minds over one perceived slight. A boycott does nothing but hurt a developer we all love and denies ourselves the chance to play what we all know will be a great game. There are plenty of other less reputable companies with far more reprehensible business practices for us to project our geek rage upon. For example, Electronic Arts has a Board of Directors that’s still predominately C.H.U.D. and they offer “kittenloaf” in their commissary…

  21. phneri Says:

You know, I’ve got to say, these podcasts are far too short. Could you guys stretch them out a bit?

  22. John Says:

    Badum-CHA!

Seriously, though, we hate it when the podcast gets past an hour and a half, but E3 required a bit more talky-talky and we couldn’t resist putting in the Dramatic Forum Readings.

  23. Wraitheist Says:

I love how every dramatic reading ended with a gunshot…lmao.

  24. D.J.I. Says:

The gunshot was so funny. Forum readings are the best. John is so perfect at those. Beer worthy.

Thanks for taking in the format feedback. This episode is really, really good! Laughed so much.

Oh, and John, I do have Riddle of the Sphinx and a good copy of the manual somewhere. Anything you wanna know? I don’t have a scanner tho.

  25. John Says:

Thanks man. Re: Riddle of the Sphinx, there’s really nothing I’d care to know at this point. Not sure I’d ever go back to it. Decent game, but not really my cup o’ meat.

  26. D.J.I. Says:

Oh yeah, thank you for ripping apart Nadal, er, Natal, or whatever you call it. My girl wants to get it so bad. But…ok, was there anything you were going to say to Milo that was gonna stop him from heading to that fishing game? Riiiight.

‘Really excited for last.fm support only if it works as custom soundtracks

I’m about the PSPgo. I always wanted to carry multiple full games on the internal memory and I’ll pay good money for that. This may stop my DSi purchase. I don’t have the other PSP. I bet it’s a downright lie they’re going to have every UMD title in digital. If my niche shit isn’t available or the d-pad ‘n buttons are jankey again, no purchase. $250 is harsh for another round of mediocre hardware.

    Patrick Stewart Castlevania, fuckyes

  27. Moe Says:

Speaking of Milo, I kept waiting for the creepy, sweaty guy lurking in the back to slink onto stage and offer him some candy and a ride to the toy store. Perhaps that would stop little Milo from fishing.

    Perhaps not.

  28. skreesha Says:

Glad I’m not the only one who thought that was a pedophilia simulator.

  29. carrotpanic Says:

Dramatic forum readings return! Yes! The only one who does it better is Shawn Elliott (which is high praise if you were an old CGW/GFW Radio listener).

  30. Lard Says:

The reason that the press gives Peter Molyneux so much shit, is because he keeps spewing it back at them.

    He is full of it.

  31. MikeOHara Says:

I enjoyed the Dramatic Forum Readings this episode, but also the comments that were being made during the talk about the Vitality Sensor for Wii were making me look funny in front of the missus, I was laughing so damn hard!

  32. Wraitheist Says:

I listen to the show at work with my headphones on and I am constantly getting concerned looks due to my outbursts of laughter. ;)

By the way, fuck Bionic Commando. Whoever made some of the design decisions in this game is a fucking moron. Sorry, I know this has nothing to do with this week’s show, but I needed to blow off some steam. It was either this, or throw a controller.

  33. CanadianJon Says:

Great show guys. As for games I’m playing because of E3 I just fired up Mass Effect and loving it all over again. Also Dead Space and my god that game is near perfect. I can’t think of anything I would change in that game, if anyone missed it last year I highly recommend checking it out.

Also John, Moe and Hilden is there any specific Canadian alcohol you want or should I just surprise you? Anything we have here that you can’t get there? let me know before I send this package.
