I could not agree more. I listened to this earlier today and it is great. The sound quality is a bit off due to it being last minute, but the talent contained is what really matters. They are all appreciating the outpouring of support from the fans currently. I will also be downloading the future episodes as well.

It’s a fun show to listen to. I kinda like that this first one has kinda crappy audio and people are sharing mics. It fits with the “Rebel” ideals.

This is a great show, but I expected nothing less from these fine folks.
I picture them holed up in a bunker, passing mic’s and running on generators.

Let me preface this by saying I’m writing this as an honest critique, not to be a dick. I wish them all the best and empathize completely with their situation.
I listened to it but wasn’t terribly happy with it. I think it may have just been too hastily put together. From the way they were talking they made this the night they all got laid off and I think that was a mistake. If they would have done this episode as more of a way to just put out there what happened, what they were feeling about it, and then announced this show was going to be the spiritual successor to 1up FM it would have better. As it was, they just seemed to ramble without a lot of coherence or guidance to what they wanted to put out. They didn’t have a great space or equipment so that didn’t help. I’m not sure why they felt they needed to rush this so quickly to the masses because they could have blogged or twittered that they would be putting out a new show in a couple weeks once they got things arranged and we still would have listened.
Also there were too many people. 3-5 is just right for a podcast. Less than three doesn’t have enough banter and more than five has too many voices to try and follow who is saying what. Everyone needs their own mic.
Again, I am not being a douchebag about this, just giving my opinions that they asked for at the end of the show. I have no doubt that it will get better as they gather equipment, arrange a topic list, and get a regular cast. I’m certainly going to keep tuning in to see how things progress and have high hopes.

I understand your points Q…however I really love me some meandering podcasts (see Smodcast)
I think the guys rushed this out so that “the internets” whould be fully backing them, rather than letting things mellow for a couple weeks.

I’d have to say, were I in their shoes, I’d have done the same thing. First off, it’s a way for them to say “thanks for the support”. Second, it’s small window of time where the internets cares about anything. If you don’t jump on that and capitalize on the momentum, it’s gone forever. Being that these guys are going to be relying on these listeners and fans, they need to make sure to give something that will carry things forward.

So are you saying that if they would have waited until say, next Friday to release the first podcast you wouldn’t have listened? Do you really think that in nine days this whole ’1UPocalypse’ (Joystiq’s clever name) debacle is going to have been forgotten? How long did ‘Gerstmann-gate’ hold on? He waited several months before successfully launching an entire gaming website and he didn’t stay in the Internet public eye that whole time.
Again, I’m not being a dick here, I just think they may have lost some of the casual listeners that followed from 1up FM by putting out this first one as the successor. Like I said before, if they really felt that they needed to do this so hastily perhaps using as a cathartic experience to let listeners know what exactly happened, what they were feeling, and what their plans are moving forward. Just give themselves time to process the situation and let everyone know that they are coming back strong in a week or so.
I’m still going to listen and support them but I think some other people may not after that.
