Hey guys, just to let you know, Pain was a pack-in game for a lot of the PS3′s that came out in ’08. I bought the MGS4 80 Gig PS3 and Pain came free. I think that skewed the numbers a lot. I’m not saying that there aren’t any mouthbreathers that actually bought the game with the intention of playing it, but that number has to be far fewer than originally advertised by that Top 10 download list.

I imagine that on the MN/WI border that on the MN side people look over the line and go “I hate them so much, I don’t know why, but I do. Let’s say bad things about that. That will surely show them.” And on the Wi side people just go “They’re looking at us funny again.”
And I thought Hilden’s real wife didn’t want to have sex with him too.
January 5th, 2009 at 2:23 pm
Good point, classic. I had no idea that it was a pack in. Makes a bit more sense now.
And Rusty, it’s not so much “I hate them” as much as “Thank God I got out!” It’s all out of love, of course. Pure, inbred love.

So what you’re saying is:
Minnesota:Wisconsin
Illinois:Indiana
Michigan:Ohio
Right?

Only the “special” kids buy PAIN.
January 5th, 2009 at 3:23 pm
I should have posted this in last weeks podcast comments but got too caught up in the horror movie discussion.
I want to get an arcade stick before SFIV comes out, can anyone make any recommendations? Also a good website to order them from. I am looking for a decent stick and am hoping not to spend over $100 is this reasonable?
Also I am looking for a 360 stick as I think the friends list features will be better but if I can get a better stick for PS3 I will go that route.
January 5th, 2009 at 3:45 pm
This is the one I have and I love it:
Fighting Stick EX
$54 with free shipping. Lovely.
Hilden’s got the PS3 version and I think Moe has the Wii version. It’s a really nice arcade stick at a really decent price.
January 5th, 2009 at 4:49 pm
If you’re a real badass you’ll get one of these: PS Real Arcade Fighting Stick
and then buy sanwa or seimitsu parts direct from Japan and install them (another 30-40).

This is going to be a long post so I apologize in advance…no, on second thought that’s too fucking bad. It serves you right for taking away the forums you inebriated bastards.
Anyway, first I would like to say how much I look forward to your weekly ramblings. I have been listening for almost a year now and have to say that of the 10-12 podcasts I listen to every week yours is in the top 3. Sure all you do is mutter inane statements and not quite so coherent thoughts about games but you do it in an ‘every man’ sort of way that is refreshing. I like the fact that your not journalists or industry insiders yet you still take the time to make a charming little show with real humor, good editing, and personality. The personality of a drunken prom date, but hey, didn’t we all have fun with her too?
Second, I was one of the lucky few who as able to play some L4D with you guys last weekend in the wee hours of the morning and I have to say that I was quite happy with the experience. I’m always a bit leary of getting involved with a new community because even though some of the people may seem like good, fun loving guys there are usually still plently of assholes stinking up the place. So far I haven’t seen anything of the like. I’m a member of a general gaming clan at another adult oriented gaming site (2old2play.com if you don’t mind me giving a shout out…Sup bitches!) but most of them are stuck on CoD4, Halo 3, or Gear 2. That has led me into the wild to seek other gamers and between the Robot Panic and Gamers with Jobs communities I have been very happy.
Third, in response to the headphone question you received I believe I can provide some insight. As a married gamer with a baby on the way (due on July 1st) I do most of my gaming in the back room at night. I got sick of not being able to hear anything when playing after my wife went to bed so I decided I need to buy some headphones. Also, since I don’t have any kind of surround sound speakers I was determined to get something that could actually enhance my experience. The Turtle Beach shit you can get at Best Buy or Circuit City is glorified, overpriced audio paraphernalia made for the uninformed masses (just like the Wii). Sure they do work for hearing sound through something other than you TV speakers but that’s about it. Just because I want to hear the sound of a babbling brook to help put me to sleep doesn’t mean I’m going to have someone piss into my ear while I’m lying there at night.
After much research and many suggestions from my clanmates I decided on the Tritton AX360. I found it for about $130 on Buy.com and I have to tell you it was worth every penny. I have to admit even though I had heard plently of testimonials from trusted sources I was still skeptical that they could do “real” surround sound. But let me tell you, the first time I put them on and fired up BioShock it was like “Holy FUCKING Shit! These Goddamn things are fucking amazing! METAL!!!” Ok, I didn’t really say ‘METAL!!!’ but I would have if I had listened to your podcast before then. It is now one of my favorite exclamations and I do loooove METAL!!! Seriously though, the sound was incredible and the surround sound really did work. The first time I heard someone sneaking up behind me and was able to turn around to get the drop on them it was glorious. Even though I initially bought them to play games at night I quickly decided they would be my main gaming audio device. I’ve been using them ever since and wouldn’t want to go back even if I got a surround sound system. The Tritton AX360 will work with the PS3 but the new model AXPro works much better as they are actually designed to also work with the PS3 instead of it being an after thought. If you have the AX360 I’m not sure they are worth the upgrade but the AXPro does have a better mic and improved inline controls. If you are looking at headphones I highly recommend them as a great mid-priced peripheral.

Lastly, I would just like to say thank you for being accessible, drunk ass, real gamers who just want to have a good time. I’m looking forward to continuing to grow with this community, making some new friends, and kicking the shit out of you weak ass bitches every chance I get. A toast to you, drunken dictators, and I’m looking forward to the next podcast.
January 5th, 2009 at 11:34 pm
Werd, Q.
Iiiiii’ll head up the weak ass bitches side. So what do you play?
January 6th, 2009 at 2:00 am
cheers john, Audiosurf is a good chill out game after or inbetween more serious gaming experiences. You’re likely to find something to enjoy there, it has selectable modes ranging from laid-back relaxing easy, all the way to intense challenging ones, and works well with a wide range of custom music types, and its system requirements are not too high. It’s not something that can really be played for long periods, but it’s kind of fun to unwind with once in a while, when you load up new mp3s on your pc.
January 6th, 2009 at 2:11 am
Thanks for the recommendation John, I will order that bad boy ASAP. Now the real question to the community is whether to get SFIV for 360 or PS3. Any ideas? I think 360 personally just because it will be easier to find friends on the 360.
January 6th, 2009 at 4:36 am
Ok now a question for Q. I was just looking at those headphones online and they sound amazing. I don’t have my 360 or PS3 hooked up to a T.V. but my 26 inch computer monitor, and then just run the audio through an external source (PC surround speakers)
Do those headphones connect directly to the 360/PS3? Would I need any fancy attachments or dongles to make them work? Cheers man thanks for the help.
Oh and I just ordered that fighting stick off of Amazon. If you are up for playing someone who also sucks at fighting games John let me know and we can get some SF2HD goin on.

D.J.I. – Honestly L4D is getting the majority of my attention right now. I had a major league addiction to CoD4 for the better part of a year but haven’t played it in about 3 months. Gears 2 was supposed to be my Methadone but fell short just like the first. While Horde mode is great the actual competitive MP is just not good. Too many glitches and weird shit for my taste. CoD: WaW was good but couldn’t hold my interest either so I’ll probably be playing L4D as my main online game for some time. I’d really like to try TF2 but am holding off until the updates are released to bring it more inline with the PC version.
CanadianJon – The headphones come with a ‘break out box’ (I don’t know what it’s actually called) that you plug the headphones into and control everything. For the 360 you just use the included optical cable to plug the break out box into the 360 power cable plug where the optical out is located. I’m not sure what you have to do for the PS3 but I believe it is a USB dongle. I can ask around to see about getting clarification.
January 6th, 2009 at 9:14 am
Sorry for the double post but since this isn’t a forum I don’t see a way to edit my prior comment.
CanadianJon – I did some digging and the AXPro does connect to the PS3 and the PC through an included USB adapter. One thing I didn’t mention about them are that have two AC adapters that have to be plugged in. One is for the amp and one connects directly to the headset cable where it connects to the amp. The AX360 didn’t have the one that plugged into the headset cable but they are stating that it was necessary because of the improvements they made in the sound and the way it’s delivered. Just FYI in case you need to plan power strip allocations.
January 6th, 2009 at 11:18 am
To all those applicable: Guess who’s 360 red ringed during TF2 last night?
January 6th, 2009 at 12:03 pm
Aw man! That sucks! Hurry up and get that thing exchanged so that we can do another massive party!
January 6th, 2009 at 2:00 pm
Thanks for the clarification Q, I think I will be ordering a pair of the AX Pro’s this weekend. I will indeed need a new power bar for all those adapters but I’m hoping it will be worth it…..all the reviews seem to suggest it will. I will also have to organize all these cords in my room…..god damn i have too many.
Also I guess I won’t be needing that PS3 headset anymore anyone want a PS3 bluetooth headset with SOCOM?
January 6th, 2009 at 3:34 pm
Well, I got my new 360. It was a gift that came with the Best Buy replacement plan. I show up with a red ringed 360 – I leave with a brand new 360, no questions asked. Who’s ready for some more TF2?
January 6th, 2009 at 6:10 pm
Funny show this week. The MN/WI bit was hilarious and the comment about Favre’s suckitude at the Metrodome hit hard but is sooo true. Glad that whiny bitch is gone…
Been listening a long time and haven’t posted enough. Keep up the great work and see you on L4D.
January 6th, 2009 at 6:52 pm
That’s fucked up mister s. I suppose praise to best buy then.
@Q
hmmm, you’re competitive solo but only play team-based shooters. Um. That doesn’t add up, yo. Anyway, I’ll be happy to fight ya in whatever 1/4 of those games I own.
Orange Box is only $20 you know.
@CanadianJon
If you’re buyin’ a stick, do the 360 version of the fighting games. Then whatever d-pad games you own you can actually play them better.
January 6th, 2009 at 8:14 pm
I completely agree with the people are stupid topic, but I think people are fucking stupid for buying DLC in the first place.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:14 pm
Q – We’re happy to have you. And thank you for your post. It’s like a manifesto.
Mister S – I didn’t think I hit you that hard… In the future I will try to be more gentle. Perhaps instead of rockets, I could try poison, drowning, or give you a plastic bag for some innocent play. You know I’m still new to all this.
January 7th, 2009 at 6:03 pm
Great show as usual guys. Just wondering who else is playing “Chromehounds” as I have always wondered about that game and am teetering on picking it up.
Oh and Moe…Thanks for not shooting the gas can I was carrying in L4Dead Friday.
January 7th, 2009 at 6:07 pm
Apparently we’re all playing Chromehounds as Moe bought me a copy for $8 the other day. Hilden’s got it, as do Savory Cade and Torgo. Moe’s supposed to be putting together a Chromehounds night soon.
January 8th, 2009 at 2:21 am
I wonder how many times the Sony corporate warlords call Torgo’s phone when he logs onto a 360. Also does his hair burst into flames? Perhaps Torgo on a 360 is the signal for the zombie apocalypse to begin….
I kid Torgo I kid.
January 8th, 2009 at 10:12 am
I wonder how many times the Sony corporate warlords call Torgo’s phone when he logs onto a 360.
No, no. His hair actually DOES start on fire.
January 8th, 2009 at 2:14 pm
So, the list of top games on PSN, remember that Pain was teh most “DOWNLOADED.”
A voucher for Pain has come with the PS3 for probably at least 8 months.
Also, Burnout Paradise is probably not on there because the Downloadable version came out WAY after the disc-based version.
January 8th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
Smart people would have burned that voucher.
January 8th, 2009 at 3:06 pm
@CanadianJon I’d love to get that SoCom bluetooth. Hit me up leftybrown {at} gmail {dot} com
Without forums, maybe someone should start a facebook DGR group so they can send out game night invites, because I’d love to jump into some Chromehounds with the party chat now in NXE.
BTW, I know it’s cheesy but I’m so glad that Left 4 Dead has really given me a chance to get to know and play with the DGR community. Sure it’s always cool to game with podcast sensations Moe and Hilden (don’t think I’ve played L4D with John yet)…but it’s a huge freakin’ blast playing with the likes of JediMascter, Pheneri, Apoche, FungousLLama, DJ Incompetant, and others. I look forward to more of that.
That being said, this Saturday on our live Married Gamers podcast (1 PM Pacific yo!) I’m calling out podcasts for friendly L4D versus matches, and as as much talent the DGR folks have, our chi will lay waste to whatever your infected can dish out.
January 8th, 2009 at 3:50 pm
Generally speaking, if someone gave me a voucher to welcome a five-pound box of rancid fecal matter into my home, free of charge… I wouldn’t consider that a freebie worth redeeming. But I’m probably not the sort of guy that best symbolizes the PS3, so maybe the news about Pain isn’t so surprising after all.
January 8th, 2009 at 4:14 pm
Ya I must agree that playing Left4Dead with Moe and Lefty the other night was amazing even though I was only in the game for 20 mins or so. My work schedule right now is crazy afternoon shifts but thankfully in February I switch back to regular people work hours so I look forward to getting in some more L4D in with you guys.
@Lefty I just shot you an e-mail just send me your mailing address and i will send the headset ASAP.
January 8th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
I’m going to be playing L4D tonight around 2100 ET if anyone is around and looking for a game.
@D.J.I – I have the Orange Box (bought it when it was released for Portal and the HL episodes) but haven’t played TF2 yet. I heard so many bad things about the Xbox Live experience with it that I just stuck with CoD4. Once the patches and additional content is released to bring it more up to par with the PC version I’m definitely going to give it a try.
January 9th, 2009 at 3:56 pm
It’s Friday and I think some zombies need to die! Look me up tonight if you guys are up for some L4D Inioth 2 is my gamertag.
January 9th, 2009 at 4:38 pm
CanadianJon – I sent a FR to ‘Inioth 2′ which I’m hoping is your GT. Canadian John is listed in the RP Community GT section so I figured that was you even though the spelling was different. If not send me a FR.
January 9th, 2009 at 4:39 pm
My little girl is under the weather, but if things go ok I might be on.
January 9th, 2009 at 7:03 pm
Just wanted to invite you all to join the Married Gamers to our Xbox game night tonight (Friday) This week’s game is Left 4 Dead. The zombie-killin’ starts at 10 PM Eastern, & PM Pacific.
And a reminder that Sundays at 4 PM is our Left 4 Dead Social Mixer every Sunday until the end of January.
Look for my gamertag Leftybrown.
January 10th, 2009 at 12:55 am
Sorry guys was out all night watching the shittiest horror movie ever made (The Unborn) what a horrible film. Although I had no idea Gary Oldman could speak Hebrew, but he speaks the fuck out of some Hebrew. The thing that would have made it the movie of the year is if Bruce Campbell came out at the end and shot the Nazi, Zombie baby in the face and gave some awesome one liners.
I will accept friend requests in a few mins here and if you guys are still playing I will get in on the zombie slaying.
