iPhone/iPod Touch Update

November 21st, 2008 by Hilden

Apple released it’s OS 2.2 update for the iPhone and iPod touch today. The reason I’m even bringing this up is that one of the coolest features relates to us, in a way.

The 2.2 update gives you, finally, the ability to download podcasts directly from your iPhone or iPod Touch. No more must you tether the damn thing to the computer in order to get your most recent and luscious episode of Drunken Gamers Radio. About damn time, I say. Podcasts can be found in the iTunes application on your phone or iPod.

In addition to the podcast support, you can also enjoy some new features for the Maps application. The coolest one being that Google Street view is now supported (at least on the iPhone. Folks seem to be missing it on the iPod Touch) as well as some new features for navigation of the Home screen. For those of you hating on the (admittedly terrible) word replacement function, the ability now exists for you to turn that feature off. Also, a slew of security holes have been fixed. Sadly, Cut and Paste is still missing from this damn thing. What does a guy have to do?

If you’re looking for more specifics, as well as some screen shots of the new features, head on over to MacWorld.com.

The only reason I’m not updating to get this long awaited feature is the fact I’ve already had it for over a month. As my iPod is Jailbroken, I can get a bunch of other cool features for it that I can’t on the official firmware. I WILL install this though after the Dev Team cracks it so I can continue to use my Jailbreak

unfortunately, there is a 10MB limit on the podcast download if you are trying to do over the air downloads. if you’re connected via wi-fi, though, i think you’re free to DL files of any size.

What? What podcast is 10MB or under? Oh, yeah. The We Sound Like Shit Due to Bitrate Podcast.

    I forgot about that one.

the Google street view app may just push me over the edge to buy a iPhone (amongst other things).

Okay, number 181 on the glitch list.

I can no longer move mail to the Trash folder on my iPhone. Anyone else having this problem? It’s pissing me off.

I’m not having that problem. Works fine for me.
