Horror Classics: Halloween 2
Article By: Tyler Durden
This clip sums up the second movie very nicely:
Yeah.
While not nearly as good as the first Halloween, the second is serviceable. Starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasence, Halloween 2 continues the story that began in the first movie. While Laurie Strode is en route to the hospital, suffering from wounds from her encounter with Michael Myers, Dr Loomis learns that Michael is not dead and eventually learns that Michael and Laurie are brother and sister.
Basically, the movie can be summed up in a few sentences. Laurie gets admitted to the hospital, gets drugged up so she can be out of the picture for a while and is woozy from the drugs, making her easy prey for Michael. Dr Loomis learns that Michael and Laurie are related, rushes all over town to hunt down Michael, hilarity ensues. Michael kills random people until eventually he stumbles into the hospital and kills more people until eventually getting stopped again.
OK. This movie is NOT Halloween 1. Michael comes off as a bloodthirsty psycho, which is kinda what he is, but bear with me. In Halloween 1, he only killed because he didnt really know what his sister looked like, and just kinda killed everyone until he found her. In Halloween 2, he just basically goes door to door and kills the neighbors. Anyone that is in radius of him, gets iced. Kind of a different Michael Myers. The suspense really isnt there, until the end. Granted, the end sequence is as cliche as you can get. Laurie is drugged up and cant walk right and gets chased by Michael through the hospital. Big points to the movie for the really hot nurse with big tits who gets naked and hops in the sauna with one of the douchey male nurse guys. NICE!
Cinematography wise, its ok. Not nearly as shadowy and creepy as the first one, but it works. John Carpenter didn’t direct this movie, he only wrote it. And it shows. It isn’t as stylish and atmospheric.
Sound is good. The theme is there, but with little alterations. The little make you jump out of your seat noises during some of the scenes make my ears bleed. Like when Michael bumps into some guy on the street, the movie has this crazy ear destroying note scream through the speakers. It really is headache inducing.
The kills…kinda not as cool, or at least as memorable. Some are lame, some are good and one in particular, the video above, is hilariously awful. I mean, come on, no one seemed to care that they just crushed some poor Trick or Treating kid in between a cop car and a van which when combined, exploded and burned the kid to death. Everyone just kinda ran off when they found it wasnt Michael Myers. Ok, I’m being harsh, they did eventuall go back and pull the damned kid out and perform an autopsy to make sure he wasn’t really Michael Myers. That’s nice of ‘em, right? Right? One of the more memorable kills is when the hospital guard gets a hammer pounded into his head. You just see the hammer fly down and his hair kinda jumps up. Its pretty funny.
So all in all, Halloween 2 is watchable. Its a fair sequel, but really looks bad when watched after the first one.
I’m way behind on these reviews, so expect some quick little recaps and reviews for
the remaining movies.
Most of them don’t deserve more than that anyways.
Final Grade for Halloween 2:
3 Burning Trick or Treater kids outta 5.
Next Up: Halloween 3: Season of the Witch!
OH BOY!

I was actually surprised by how well this movie played after the first one. It’s not nearly as good, but is still a really decent slasher.
And man…I can’t wait to read your impressions of Part 3. WTF is up with that movie?

I can’t think of a single good thing about this movie. The first Halloween is a classic and it’s followed up by this? Bleh.
