Drunken Gamers Radio: 09.21.2008

We’ve got a special guest with us this week! In addition to the usual food item that replaces John, we’ve got Sean “Elysium” Sands from the Gamers with Jobs-Conference Call! We had a great time with Sean and relish in the hour of credibility we gained from having him on the show. Not that it’ll last. We also talk about Rock Band 2 and Dragon Quest IV for the DS!

I haven’t listened to it yet, but in my DQIV review, I’m pretty certain I said the Torneko spinoffs inspired the “Wanderer” games. I meant to say they inspired the “Mystery Dungeon” series. Both are rogue games, so whatever…close enough.
Blame Vegas.

Great show as always.

I must of blacked out during the last show because I don’t remember that Hilden was reviewing Rage Wars. I’ve never played that game (mostly because it’s a multiplayer only game) but Turok 2 was pure awesome.

And boo to Hilden for saying the PS3 d-pad was superior to the Classic Controller or Wiimote’s. Boo.

I heard that too, Rusty. The Wiimote’s d-pad kicks the shit out of the PS3′s. I’ll spank him when I see him on Sunday.

Make him say “uncle” on the next show.

You obviously haven’t experienced the power of the PS3. Surely the 8 core processing power alone should have clued you into the artistry and majesty that is the PS3 digital controller. It’s fucking ART, assholes.

Thanks for reading my letter dudes and suggesting some Saturn stuff.

Um, Hilden, I thought John was the money-hat wearing PS3 fanboy. When did you purchase your 2nd (3rd?) one.

No, it’s not supposed to be “The Blob”. It’s De Blob, and it’s fantastic. You guys should check it out. It’s a rare phenomenon: a third-party Wii game that is actually great. You guys should try it. The soundtrack in particular is fantastic.

Too Human is Too Awesome, you must be playing it wrong
Seriously though, this is a lame defense, but I also died like crazy the first time I played through as a Beserker. Going through again as a Defender with a better sense of how to handle enemies I died a grand total of 3 times and had a way more fun.
If you are dying a lot, keep an eye on you gear, it may be wrecked or broken. They don’t give you a real indication of this but my first time through I spent 20 minutes shooting the third boss with a useless broken gun, screaming at the TV “Why the fuck am I not doing any damage?!?!”
I struggle to defend that game, but it has a powerful and mysterious draw for me… I love it and I can’t stop playing.

Okay, I was a bit harsh. But that damn moment where I respawned in the middle of a pack of enemies and lasted less than 5 sec. had just happened before I recorded the show. So I was a little pissed. And right after that moment was where I got the fucking “Died 100 Times” Achievement. Fuck that shit.
I do keep track of my items on a regular basis. I’m always trying to use healthy gear. I know how to do combos and work enemies. I’m not perfect at it. But that’s my point. You almost have to be some silly version of perfect in order to play this game as a Berserker without a friend along. And that’s just shitty balance. It’s terribly uneven and borders on not fun at times.
However, I do admit, that when it does click and you’re shredding though enemies, it’s got a genuine appeal. It just doesn’t last. And the moments of hating it are far outweighing the moments where I love it.

I hear you dude. I honestly can’t fault anyone for not liking Too Human. It’s got some serious balance issues, some truly bad design decisions, and moments of pure shittiness to go with along all the good stuff.
With that said, it’s still got me by the balls. If they don’t keep going with the sequels I’ll be bummed.
