Final Fantasy V’s Gilgamesh Theme on the Guitar
Okay folks, so it seems that at least one person and potentially the PanicBot5000 (it’s never easy to read his emotions at the best of times) kinda liked the F-Zero Guitar vid I recently posted. In order for my ego to get at least partially satisfied I’m gonna give you lot some more.
So the track this time is the Gilgamesh Theme from Final Fantasy V as arranged by the Black Mages, titled “Clash on the Big Bridge”
Yes I’m wearing sunglasses indoors. Not just to fend off the bright light but also to make me look more cool. Rather than playing over the main melody, I added a lower octave harmony part to thicken up the sound. That and I couldn’t resist playing the keyboard solo which almost kinda works. Mostly.
So I made probably a whole deal of mistakes and stuff which is normal, but given that I look so damned cool in those sunglasses I’m sure you’ll all cope.
As you can tell by the amount of sunlight (and my lack of hair), this was not filmed in the last couple of weeks. Right now there’s more chance on me surviving on a diet of pins than there is chance that sunshine will rear it’s head in the UK during ‘summer-time’.
I have several more of these vids in the works and may consider doing requests if you desire. Especially if there is bribary or money involved. For all you guitarists out there, I may even consider a small video lesson or two…
Peace, Love and Good Happiness Stuff,
Philthy

The sunglasses should be in every video.
I am gonna throw out some suggestions for the next video:
Contra and Super C.
Kickass music that should be Philthy-ed up.

Ah, this one’s one of my favorites. There aren’t many Black Mages tracks I don’t like, granted; but this one’s on the short list. Assault of the Silver Dragons is also really, really excellent, especially towards the end; might you consider that one in the future?
Really loving these videos, man.

I’ve been on a bit of a Black Mages kick for the last few weeks so seeing this is awesome. Nice job with the changes, they worked fine for the most part. Requests? Matoya’s Cave and Those Who Fight Further, both by The Black Mages. I would love to learn both of those, but videos of you playing them would be awesome too.
So how do you learn these songs? Off tabs? Just figure them out yourself? If tabs, the much more likely, could you give a link?

M.C. – let me take a look at Assualt of the Silver Dragons. I haven’t tried to transcribe that one yet but I don’t think there’s anything too scary there, one of the solo’s might be *fun* to work out.
Hmmm I could maybe do vid lessons for those songs if that would help? Let me know!
I know how to play both most of the way through I guess and to answer your question, I don’t have any tabs for these, I like the challenge of trying to transcribe by ear. That way you train your ears a little more each time as well as probably come up with your own style of playing them in the process which to me is a little more interesting.

You do a really good job of transcribing these songs. If you could do a couple of video lessons that would be awesome, but it’s cool enough just to watch you.
